Cal Thomas, seeing one more smear campaign fail to work, now is telling people that they are too cynical, too ignorant to see what is going on in Washington (Op-Ed, Nov. 5).
On the contrary, I think that the public has a pretty good grasp of what the constant hearings, constant badgering and independent counsels are really about: They are no more than an attempt to remove a Democratic president from office, and failing that, prevent his Democratic successor from being elected when his term expires. The public can see that the Republicans and their Christian Coalition masters will stop at nothing to get their way–an America whose laws reflect a narrow biblical view of life and how it should be lived.
The fact that the public sees through this facade of righteousness is proof of its collective intelligence. The public is not as blind as Thomas believes.
