Bernie Lincicome’s column “College football is the last place in sports where the season matters” (Tribune, Nov. 7) was refreshing and on the money. It is both irksome and tiring that “Tribune college football writer” Andrew Bagnato devotes every column of the season, sometimes two per day, to campaigning for a national title game and endlessly discussing the shuffling of the polls in which he participates as a voter. Stories about games, teams, players and coaches would be far more interesting and worthwhile.

It seems Mr. Bagnato can enjoy only one game per season on Jan. 1, and then only if the game is between the two teams that he and his colleagues believe to be No. 1 and No. 2. It will be a sad day for the real fan when Mr. Bagnato’s endless lobbying for a single “dream game” on Jan. 1 results in the loss of wonderful matchups like Florida-Florida State, Michigan-Notre Dame and Nebraska-Washington during the season.
