In the pitch by Bob Haisman of the Illinois Education Association for continuing tenure (Voice, Nov. 7), he asks: “Please answer the following question honestly: If your supervisor thought you were performing below par, shouldn’t you be so informed and told what you need to do to improve? Tenure insures due process, nothing more.”

Mr. Haisman says it exactly right. And if millions and millions of working Americans can get the “due process” he refers to without legislation, why should we have to legislate it for teachers?
