The Hanover Park Village Board approved a policy Thursday for emergency branch and brush collection following storms.

The forestry division of the Public Works Department will survey damage and determine whether emergency collections are needed. Residents will be alerted by cable Channel 13 and, if necessary, written notice.

Village Clerk Sherry Craig recommended that the village hot line number, 630-372-4290, also carry the message.

The board also awarded a $100,400 contract to buy five 1998 Ford police squad cars.

The board also gave the Metra commuter rail agency permission to take bids on the design of a new platform shelter at the Hanover Park station.

Metra would pay $5,500, a federal grant would pay $5,500 and the village would pay $11,000 of the estimated $22,000 cost.
