Birthday: April 19, 1946.

Birthplace: Cheshire in northwest England.

Occupation: Actor.

Current home: Los Angeles.

Marital status: Single.

Working on: “Over the Top” on ABC-TV. I play an out-of-work actor who shows up at his ex-wife’s hotel.

The book I’ve been reading: “Trust No One,” the Doris Duke biography by Ted Schwarz and Tom Rybak.

Magazines I read: All the entertainment ones–Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, People and Us–to figure out who’s in the firing line this week; Sunset and Bon Appetite because I’m a cook; House & Garden because I’m a gardener; and (British) Tatler when I can find it.

Favorite pigout food: Beef and potatoes, a rather English meal.

Favorite performer: Peter Sellers.

Favorite childhood memory: Sailing with my father in the south of England. He died when I was 12.

Prized possession: A Victorian portrait of Sir Henry Irving, the first actor knight.

Personal heroes: Gandhi, Alec Guinness, Rex Harrison and Picasso.

If I could do it over, I: Wouldn’t change a thing, because the best artistic decisions are instinctive.

My fantasy is: I’m eating a fig in the south of France by the water.

The worst advice my mother ever gave me: “Look before you leap.”

The one thing I can’t stand: The sound of unnecessary machinery.

If I could change one thing about myself: It would be my life span. Id like to live longer.

The best time in my life: Opening on Broadway in “Amadeus.”

If I weren’t an actor, I’d be: Writing novels.

If I’ve learned one thing in life, it’s: This too shall pass.

The three words that best describe me: He’s too much.
