Police arrested a 34-year-old Batavia man and charged him with battery after a traffic altercation earlier this week on Main Street and Illinois Highway 31.
Police said Terrance M. Regole of 336 Main St. was traveling south on Illinois 31, alternately slowing and speeding, and weaving from lane to lane in front of another driver for about 2 miles.
The other driver acknowledged tailgating Regole and turning on her high beams in an effort to pass, police said. She told police Regole then stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road, got out and began pounding on her driver’s-side window.
The woman told police she got out and exchanged unpleasantries with Regole, who twice punched her in the face before leaving the area.
Regole admitted to the verbal fight but denied hitting the woman, police said.
