In September, signs went up warning drivers that Square Barn Road was closed and directing them to the appropriate detours. The road remained open, however, and a short time later the signs were covered up.
That is about how things are going to stay through the winter, according to Algonquin Public Works Director Bob Mitchard.
Mitchard said work, which includes putting in curbs and gutters and adding a new turn lane at Algonquin Road, was to have been done this fall.
Those plans came to an abrupt halt when it was discovered that Northern Illinois Gas lines along the road still needed to be moved before work could get started. Mitchard said now it looks like the whole project will have to wait until spring.
