In my opinion, the least understood of our national holidays is Thanksgiving. Lacking the commercial pressure of the Christmas season and the relaxed patriotism of the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving’s unique message is simple: Count your blessings.
Blessings? In a world filled with injustice, greed, crime, treachery and pure evil, how can we even think about blessings?
While it may sound simplistic, even the most unfortunate among us can be thankful for a nation that honors freedom and opportunity. And those of us who enjoy good health, prosperity and solid families should truly appreciate the meaning of sincere gratitude.
Maybe we should think about this as we dig in to that traditional turkey and watch the Bears on television.
