Steve Stenstrom is expected to play in the second or third quarter against Detroit Thursday. But he was expected to see similar action Sunday against Tampa Bay and warmed up briefly in the second quarter of the 13-7 victory.

But the Bears are looking to establish some momentum and that’s what they had with Erik Kramer guiding the offense to a 13-0 halftime lead against the Buccaneers, so Stenstrom sat and understood.

“I was told there might be an opportunity for me to get some time but the course of a game can affect a lot of things,” Stenstrom said. “We were in control of the game and you don’t change things at that point.”

Offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh said that some playing time for Rick Mirer is planned and has been discussed but no decision has been reached.

Tackling the ball: Raymont Harris sat out the latter part of last Sunday’s victory over Tampa Bay, saying he wasn’t sure if he could hold onto the ball tightly enough with sore ribs.

Does he expect the Lions to go for the ball Thursday?

“I hope so,” Harris said, “because usually when someone attacks the ball, they’re not giving a full effort on tackling and I don’t have a history of fumbling the ball a lot. So I would welcome someone just trying to grab at the ball. It would give me a chance to run over them.”
