Thank you for the wonderful article on Kenwood (“Kenwood bounces back to become city’s hot new area,” Page 1). Chicago is blessed with a wealth of vibrant neighborhoods. This is a social, cultural and economic benefit to the whole city.

But many of these appealing and distinctive neighborhoods would have vanished without preservation efforts and legal protection. Therefore, all who live in Chicago should be alert to threatened development of the historic district bordered by Lake Shore Drive, Dearborn Street, Division Street and Lincoln Park. No fewer than four major building projects would replace low-scale apartment houses with huge high-rises. The integrity of the neighborhood would be destroyed, replaced by a faceless, shadowy canyonland of towers.
