In an annual rite of winter, city officials Monday will host the grand opening of Skate on State, the free public ice skating rink in the heart of the Loop. Ceremonies will feature an exhibition by the Junior Blades. This could be the final year for the rink–at least at its present location–because the vacant Block 37, where it operates, is planned for a new hotel and shopping complex.

Skate on State will be open from 9 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. daily except Thursdays, when it will operate until 9:45 p.m.

Ceremonies start at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the rink, State and Randolph Streets.
