James O’Connor, 79, of Evanston died Monday in St. Francis Hospital. He was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force, who served in Europe during World War II. For about 20 years, Lt. Col. O’Connor was the liaison for the Chicago area for the U.S. Air Force Academy. Survivors include his wife, Helen; three daughters, Francine Straulin, Eloise Roche and Martha DeVryer; five sons, Peter, Thomas, William, John and Phillip; a sister; and six grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday.
