Peter Kappa, 71, owner of Kappa Funeral Home, 2321 W. Chicago Ave., for more than 30 years, died Monday in his residence above the business in Chicago’s Ukrainian Village neighborhood. Mr. Kappa purchased the funeral service in the 1960s and served the large Ukrainian community for years, often providing free services to families who could not afford to pay. He was in the Navy in World War II. Survivors include his longtime companion Betty Richards; two daughters, Mary Bowar and Tina Gomez; two brothers; three sisters; and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 2238 W. Rice St., Chicago.
