With a pair of dour original songs as bookends, Yoakam ranges across Tex-Mex, Memphis soul, honky-tonk, big band jazz, Hawaiian music and even a mariachi version of “Silver Bells.” A fine, wiry rendition of “Silent Night” shows he can be tender as well as tough-minded.
