Frederick Walter Kuh, 70, a restaurateur who owned a landmark spot in San Francisco, died Nov. 7 in St. Helena, Calif. The son of a Chicago stockbroker, Mr. Kuh grew up in Glencoe and attended New Trier High School in Winnetka. He graduated from Lake Forest College after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1954, Mr. Kuh moved to San Francisco, where he opened the Old Spaghetti Factory Cafe & Excelsior Coffee House in the North Beach district. It was considered a beatnik haunt as well as the unofficial local headquarters of the 1956 presidential campaign of Adlai E. Stevenson. Mr. Kuh also owned the Savoy Tivoli, an Italian bistro, in San Francisco. Survivors include a sister and a brother. A service will be held in February in San Francisco.
