Frieda E. Anderson, 102, a retired Wieboldt’s department store sales clerk and longtime resident of Norwood Park, died Wednesday in Covenant Village retirement home, Plantation, Fla. Mrs. Anderson was born in Chicago and raised in the Humboldt Park area. She was married to Oscar Anderson from 1925 until his death in 1964. Mrs. Anderson was active in the Evangelical Covenant Church for about 80 years and spent most of her life as a member of Humboldt Park Covenant Church, where she volunteered and worked with the ladies’ club. After the death of their 3 1/2-year-old daughter in 1933, the Andersons lived alone until 1936, when John Eric Lindfors became their foster son. “When (Mrs. Anderson) found out I needed a home, she took me in,” said Lindfors, who stayed with the couple until his marriage in 1951. Mrs. Anderson worked as a sales clerk at Wieboldt’s in Chicago for roughly 20 years. She sewed her own clothes. She moved from Norwood Park to Covenant Palms retirement home in Miami in 1972, and later relocated to Covenant Village. Mrs. Anderson is also survived by three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at John V. May Funeral Home, 4553 N. Milwaukee Ave., to be immediately followed by a service.
