It’s so hard to believe that the Deerfield Toll Plaza is coming down. And what’s even more surprising is that the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority addressed and corrected four related community concerns–even if it meant taking down additional entrance and exit toll booths!

The Village of Deerfield and many of its businesses and residents have been fighting–now successfully–to save the character and ambience of its residential streets under the threat of the former Deerfield Toll Plaza reconfiguration plan. That plan would have created a major thoroughfare through an area that now remains residential and somewhat peaceful.

We all know that the toll authority is under a microscope right now. In our case, Ralph Wehner, its executive director, listened and responded. Hats off to Mr. Wehner for coming up with an innovative plan to please the Village of Deerfield and millions of commuters across the state.
