Doug Gilmour scored on his first shift in Maple Leaf Gardens since being traded and Martin Brodeur stopped all 25 Toronto shots as the New Jersey Devils won 3-0 Saturday night to extend their winning streak to five games.

Denis Pederson and Bobby Holik added goals for the Eastern Conference leaders, who improved their record to 22-9. Brodeur, in posting his fourth shutout of the season and his 26th in only his fifth season, lowered his goals-against average to 1.63.

Gilmour, who was presented with a framed print during a pregame ceremony, scored his seventh goal of the season 80 seconds after the opening faceoff. Pederson scored his fifth goal 3:20 into the second period. Holik got his 17th at 14:11 of the second.

New Jersey, the NHL’s stingiest team, was 19-0 when leading after two periods, and the Maple Leafs weren’t about to become an exception. By the middle of the third period, dozens of fans in the capacity crowd of 15,700 were booing Toronto players hemmed in their own zone by determined Devils.

Oilers 4, Blues 1: Boris Mironov had a goal and an assist and visiting Edmonton victimized the league’s No. 2 penalty-killing unit by scoring three goals on the power play.

Mironov assisted on a second-period goal, a break-in by Mats Lindgren that snapped a 1-1 tie. He slapped in the rebound of his own shot at 3:02 of the second period for a two-goal lead as the Oilers wrapped up a 2-1-1 trip and ended the Blues’ three-game home winning streak.

Lightning 3, Senators 1: Igor Ulanov, Rob Zamuner and Jason Wiemer scored as Tampa Bay ended a 16-game road winless streak. The Lightning last won away from home at the United Center on Oct. 9. The Lightning had lost its last 11 road games heading into the Corel Centre.

Bruce Gardiner scored for Ottawa.

Bruins 4, Canadiens 2: Anson Carter set up Sergei Samsonov’s first-period power-play goal and also scored one, lifting host Boston over Montreal.

Ted Donato and Ray Bourque added the other Boston goals as the streaking Bruins won their fourth straight.

Turner Stevenson and Sebastien Bordeleau scored for Montreal, which dropped its second game in two nights, coming off a 5-2 loss in New Jersey.

The Bruins beat the Canadiens at their own strength in the first period with the two power-play scores and completely muffled Montreal’s own top-rated power play. The Canadiens were 0 for 3 with the man advantage.

Islanders 4, Panthers 1: Tommy Salo stopped 23 shots and Ken Belanger broke a tie with his first NHL goal for host New York.

Claude Lapointe, Todd Bertuzzi and Bryan Smolinski also scored for the Islanders, who broke a two-game losing streak.

Ed Jovanovski scored for the Panthers, who were coming off Friday night’s 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers. The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the Panthers.
