John N. Marx, 86, a Chicago architect, died Thursday in Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. Mr. Marx, a resident of Chicago, received his bachelor’s degree in architecture and engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He did postgraduate work in Chicago at the Armour Institute, now known as the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Mr. Marx initially worked for architectural firms in Chicago but later opened his own office in the city’s Edgebrook neighborhood. He designed houses and office and bank buildings throughout the Midwest. Survivors include his wife, Grace, and a daughter, Verona Barr. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Theis/Gorski Funeral Home, 3517-27 N. Pulaski Rd., Chicago. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Viator Catholic Church, 4170 W. Addison St., Chicago.
