Suggestions were made recently that because of the aging of the American work force, it will soon become necessary for the average person to work until 70 to become eligible for Social Security.

How this is supposed to square with these court decisions allowing older workers to be fired just to save money is beyond me and, I think, beyond reason. We will be told to work until we reach 70, but we’ll be fired in our mid-50s! Just what on Earth is happening here?

The argument that these kinds of moves are “necessary” to compete in a global market is another blatant lie. Over the last couple of decades corporate profits have gone through the roof, while American workers have been downsized and jobs have been exported overseas by the millions, all in the name of global competition.
