Two groups of students at John Hersey High have earned recognition for helping the needy and bringing home a trophy for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
A Thanksgiving food drive sponsored by The Arlington Heights school’s Student Council and Service Over Self Club collected more than 19,000 cans and boxes of food and $6,000, which will be distributed to the St. Augustine Center for American Indians in Chicago and 32 needy families.
In addition to the successful food drive, deaf education students are reaping honors as well.
Last month, several students earned first place at the Harper College Academic Bowl for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students.
