Regarding “One family’s decision/What to do about Dad” (Page 1, Dec. 14-15):
Congratulations to Charles Leroux for his story on the O’Halloran family eldercare dilemma. There is no doubt that these articles served as a wakeup call to the multitude of Tribune readers grappling with the fact that their parents are aging.
What I found most interesting about the series was the depth of the eldercare issues experienced by the O’Hallorans, in spite of the presence of so many family caregivers. Imagine the circumstances in cases where there are few adult children (and many times only one) to help carry out this inevitable family responsibility.
Thank you for bringing to light this often-avoided subject and especially to Charles Leroux for giving the topic the dignity and respect it deserves.
