First Lady hangs around Fabyan: Members of the Friends of Fabyan fashion ornaments for their holiday tree that are reflective of the Fabyan Villa in Geneva. The villa is a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home where millionaires Nelle and George Fabyan lived during the first part of the century.
Clay Totz of Geneva, for instance, assembled intricate balsa wood and plastic models of the estate’s windmill, Japanese tea house, lighthouse and monkey cage. But perhaps the ornament that stands out most is a round picture of a white-haired woman surrounded by white pearls and labeled “First Lady.” The photo is of longtime Friends president Darlene Larson.
“People say that Darlene looks like Barbara Bush,” said Marie Franz of Geneva, former curator of the villa who made the ornament. “And with all the years she has given to the Friends, she is the First Lady of Fabyan.”
