The Plan Commission has recommended that the Village Board approve a development proposal for the 51-acre Bethany Seminary site near the village.

The gathering was the third meeting the Plan Commission has used to handle plans Chicago-based Shaw Co. has presented for the unincorporated property.

Recommended for approval was the company’s petition for annexation of the parcel, a preliminary plat of subdivision and rezoning.

The commission put off voting on the proposal for the former home of the Bethany Theological Seminary on Nov. 24, because two of its members could not be present.

The company, which is clearing buildings from the site, has proposed the parcel northwest of Butterfield and Meyers Roads be a mixed-use center called Fountain Square. The development would feature up to six condominium buildings, four to six restaurants, two retail structures and a 150-room hotel.

Commissioners said the proposal will be presented to the Village Board committee of the whole on Jan. 8.
