Why the cheap shot, Gene Wojciechowski? Your column on the bowl alliance (Dec. 9) included an anecdote about Jim “Hoss” Brock visiting Harvard in 1984. You refer to a student as “some Ivy League knucklehead with a perfect SAT score and an inflated opinion of Crimson football.” True, the Crimson may not appear in a bowl this year (or ever, since Ivy League teams are not eligible for bowl participation). And true, Harvard has not contended for the national championship since the glory days of the 1890s. But the team did win the Ivy League this year, so they’re not as worthy of derision as you might think. Not bad for a bunch of Ivy League knuckleheads. Here’s a suggestion: Next time, pick on Yale. They’re always an easy target.
