Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
I was glad to see the story headlined “New WBEZ format leaves some cold–and out in it” (Tempo, Dec. 16) on the changes at WBEZ (FM 91.5). Such a wholesale abandonment of wonderful local programming should be of concern to everyone.
Torey Malatia, WBEZ general manager, is public radio’s answer to Mike McCaskey. Both seem to have a “father knows best” attitude toward Chicago institutions and with, I fear, the same results.
Mara Tapp’s departure from WBEZ, like that of Wilbur Marshall from the Chicago Bears, was an early warning sign that something great was about to be destroyed by someone who just doesn’t get it.
I hope that WBEZ gets back on the track sooner than the Bears have done.
