What a deal: Talk about checking coupons before heading out the door for some holiday shopping. It turns out there are coupons and then there are COUPONS. We recently found some coupons at the back of a catalog that give new meaning to saving big bucks. Think $5,000 — not the gift, the coupon.
All a person has to do to redeem it is buy something for $24,000. Not a problem at M.J. Miller & Co., a longtime jewelry store in the tony suburb of Barrington. Miller’s 1997-98 catalog, which includes coupons that start at $250 (buy $2,000 or more), also features a sparkling jeweled flower pin for $120,000 and a ring for $950,000.
Of course, there is always the $5-off-on-$15-or-more coupon at the back of the Bed Bath & Beyond catalog for ordinary folk.
