A grant from the United Way will allow the YWCA of Lake and McHenry Counties to provide medical services and educational programs for teenagers at risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
Targeting ages 12-18, the YWCA’s abstinence education program will stress prevention through self-esteem building and crisis management.
The YWCA’s Teen Health Initiative will provide free seminars, literature, safe sex information and access to STD screening services, regardless of a participant’s ability to pay for medical services.
“These young women, if they are sexually active, should have a yearly Pap test,” said Executive Director Elizabeth Forbrich. Call 847-662-4247 for more information.
