Bombarded as we are daily with messages warning us to be on a constant alert against the criminal element in our society, it’s delightful to be on the receiving end of an unsolicited “good deed” as I was on a recent visit to Navy Pier.
I was seated on a bench and had dropped my belongings beside me. After deciding to stroll over to another bench for a better view of the boats, I inadvertently picked up everything except my purse. Approximately 10 minutes later I realized it was missing and beat a hasty retreat to bench No. 1. The purse, of course, was gone.
You cannot imagine my relief when the attendant on duty at the entrance told me that someone had turned in the missing item. Naturally I checked at once to see if anything was missing, but it was all there.
Out of curiosity I asked the young lady on duty if she could give me some sort of description of the person who was so honest–young, old, whatever. She replied, “It was an older black couple!”
Whoever they are–wherever they are–I just want them to know that their action really “made my day” and that there are not enough “thank you’s” to adequately express my gratitude. What fine people they must be!
