Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Planet of the Wolves (Matador) (star) (star) (star)

Punk rock is about urgency, and Guitar Wolf spew their songs with the fury of men with cocked guns to their heads. This Japanese trio isn’t that different from every other collection of miscreants who heard a Ramones record and subsequently went crazy for ragged, spiky rock, but what sets this band apart is the players’ blinding intensity. Scratchy, furious songs like “Wild Zero” and “Let’s Get Hurt” are hurled forth with delirious abandon, and the band is even able to infuse the tired old Stones song “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” with something resembling its original firepower.
