Aileen Counselbaum, who was known around her Skokie neighborhood as “Mom Counselbaum” and also was vice president of a floor-covering business, died Wednesday in the University of Chicago’s Bernard Mitchell Hospital. She was 72. Mrs. Counselbaum was born in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago and had lived in Skokie for 43 years. She was very involved in her community, and the Counselbaum house was known as the place for neighborhood kids to gather, said her husband, Bert. Mrs. Counselbaum also served as vice president of the Floor Source in Wheeling, which she owned with her son. Mrs. Counselbaum was active in several medical charities, including serving as former president of the Asthmatic Children’s Aid Society. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Counselbaum is survived by her daughter, Sheri Bass; two sons, Lawrence and Richard; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Piser Chapel, 9200 N. Skokie Blvd., Skokie.
