Before the season began, Oswego gymnastics coach Lorrie Gregory scheduled a holiday invitational in hopes of drawing some talented teams. Stevenson, second in state last year, and Sandburg, fourth-place finisher at state, agreed to participate, as did Larkin.
“We want to have good competition to get our girls prepared for the state series,” Gregory said.
With those teams in the gym, the Panthers emerged as the best at their own meet, winning with a 143.05 score. Larkin (141.3) was second, Stevenson (138.7) took third and Sandburg (137.9) fourth.
“We had lots of falls on beam, two on bars and one on floor,” Gregory said. “We had a good score but not what we’re capable of.”
Freshman Tiffany Bell led Oswego, finishing second in the all-around with a 36.95 total. She won balance beam and finished second in floor exercise.
Stevenson junior Amanda Kaufman won the all-around (38.05), the vault, floor exercise and uneven bars. She was second on the beam.
