Saddam Hussein invites reporters to see his palaces, several dozen of which have been built since the Persian Gulf War, while at the same time appealing for world sympathy for ill and starving Iraqi children.

The palaces, resplendent with marble, crystal chandeliers and swimming pools, are declared off limits to United Nations inspectors for reasons of “national sovereignty.” His cynical exploitation of Iraqi children should be clear for all to see. Is anyone listening?
