DRIVER, 24, IS CHARGED IN DEATH OF PASSENGER
Chicago police charged a 24-year-old man Sunday with one count of reckless homicide after the car he was driving left a South Side bridge and landed on the banks of the Chicago River, killing his passenger.
Juan Sanchez of 2750 S. Lawndale Ave. also was charged with driving under the influence in connection with the accident, which occurred near Cermak Road and Lumber Street at 9:35 p.m. Saturday, police said.
The accident killed Alma Banda, 26, of the 1700 block of West Cermak Road. She and Sanchez were extricated from the crumpled car by firefighters.
Sanchez was listed in good condition at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center Sunday night.
