The show’s creator and star has announced that his popular TV comedy “Seinfeld” will stop production at the end of this season.
Humor analysts trying to explain its popularity have overlooked the Jewish connection. The four characters on “Seinfeld” are an echo of the inhabitants of the shtetl of Eastern Europe: George is the “schlemiel,” the born loser; Elaine plays the lovable “yenta.” Kramer is the proverbial “luftmensch.” His head in the clouds; he is forever involved in impractical schemes to make money.
And Jerry Seinfeld? He’s the rabbi, of course. He is the revered leader, the center of the congregation of four, who holds services every Thursday night.
