Edward J. McCarthy, 90, a longtime resident of Chicago’s South Deering neighborhood and a former machine repairman for General Mills for 35 years, died Wednesday in Mercy Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Homewood. He served in World War II There are no immediate survivors. Visitation will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Elmwood Chapel, 11200 S. Ewing Ave., Chicago. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 768 Lincoln Ave., Calumet City.
