John J. Walsh, 74, a retired Chicago police officer, died Thursday at his home in Chicago. A Chicago native, Mr. Walsh joined the department in 1950 as a patrol officer in the Gresham District. His assignments included the police department’s lockup and Midway Airport. He retired in 1981. Mr. Walsh was a member of the Marine Corps and fought in Europe in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; three daughters, Barbara Ann Gregory, Lynn Ann Henkes and Laura Ann Nemeth; a son, John Michael; and nine grandchildren. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Denis Church, 8301 S. St. Louis Ave., Chicago.
