Hooray for the DuPage County transportation planners (“Roadwork, not railroad, seen as traffic cure,” Metro DuPage, Dec. 18)! They recognized the reality of suburban transportation and had the guts and common sense to recommend expanding highway capacities rather than some illusory rail transit alternative.
Of course, we can expect the modern-day Luddites to condemn this effort with their usual anti-auto zeal. Unfortunately, their voices will be raised loudly while hundreds of thousands of motorists have only a handful of advocates speaking for them. (And the politically correct AAA Chicago Motor Club is not among those advocates.)
Perhaps one of these days those planners attuned to reality will even restore the Fox Valley Expressway to future transportation systems.
