A request for a temporary sign promoting a new residential development passed in the City Council on Wednesday by a 3-2 vote.

The 12-foot by 18-foot sign directing motorists to the Park Ridge Estates being built on Crystal Lake Avenue will be placed on the north side of Bull Valley Road about 600 feet east of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

City Administrator John Lobaito said council approval of the sign was necessary because the sign code does not provide for off-site signs.

Ald. Bill Baird said he feared a precedent in granting off-site signs. “I just don’t think it’s a good idea,” he said.

The council recently approved a similar sign for the Olde Mill Ponds subdivision on Illinois Highway 31 and Bull Valley Road.
