A new “Parents and Teachers Together” program will be instituted at the Kiwani Learning Center day-care and pre-school facility, sponsored by Turning Point.
Made possible by a $1,000 grant through the McHenry County Mental Health Board, the series of six workshops aims to serve families of the center by providing information on the physical and emotional development of pre-school children.
Topics scheduled include forging a relationship between school and home, keeping kids healthy and the effects of television violence.
“We’re trying to forge a bond between parents and teachers to work together,” says child-care center director Mary Widhalm.
Widhalm says the money will be used to provide speakers and materials for the evening seminars that begin in February and are free to clients of the center.
