The Plan Commission on Wednesday recommended the City Council approve a rezoning request from Lucent Technologies that could lead to new construction near the company’s campus at 2000 N. Naperville Rd.

Lucent asked the commission to alter the zoning of two of its lots, one at the northwest corner of Naperville Road and Warrenville Road and one at the southwest corner of the intersection.

The commission recommended the zoning of the parcels be changed to a designation for office, research and industrial uses from a research and development classification.

City staff members said setback requirements and other rules in the two zoning districts are similar, but the proposed zoning would allow for multiple buildings without resubdivision of the land.

Bob Kallien, community development director for Naperville, said no building plans are pending, but if the company does come forward with a proposal, it would be a “cleaner” process with the new zoning.
