If Adrian Cronauer and the Citizen’s Flag Alliance really want to protect the American flag (“A secular sacredness,” Op-Ed, Dec. 28), amending the Constitution is the worst thing they could do.
Symbolic flag desecration, while highly provocative, is also quite rare. The passage of an anti-flag desecration amendment will surely cause the increased use of this despised speech.
Need proof? Just look at the effects of the 18th Amendment’s prohibition of alcohol.
