The long-vacant former Colson’s Department Store building in downtown Wheaton has a new owner and a new purpose: as a Thai restaurant and retail building.

Lee Jackels, a Wheaton resident, bought the 12,000-square-foot building from St. Charles developer Mark Anderson for $580,000. Anderson previously was the developer for a city-backed redevelopment project across the street.

Anderson had bought the Colson’s building with a $400,000 loan from the city, for use in conjunction with that project. Anderson, however, was fired earlier this year by the city after development lagged and after city officials said he didn’t have enough financial backing to complete the project across the street.
