Libertyville’s Allison Farrington knew what she wanted, and Tricia Thomas just gave it to her.
“I wanted the ball, and I knew I could hit that shot,” said Farrington, who made the winning basket on a feed from Thomas with 3 seconds left to upset 14th-ranked Warren 48-46.
“We were lucky enough that they left me open,” said Farrington. “That may have thought that I was going to kick it down to Katie (Kerrigan), and I got the shot.”
Farrington’s 12 points and seven rebounds led the Wildcats (9-7, 4-1 North Suburban Conference), and Katie Kerrigan chipped in 12 more points.
The victory leaves the teams tied atop the league standings. Libertyville coach Tom Murphy said the game was crucial, what with Class AA regional seeding meetings coming up Wednesday.
“It was important that we played hard today because, let’s face it, the seeding meetings are based more on power than on team records,” Murphy said.
“We’ll have some teams coming in with great records but weak schedules, and they’ll want to be seeded high but they shouldn’t be. We should be in the top four, but I’ve been surprised before.”
