Responding to declines in reading levels on Illinois Goals Assessment Program tests, Salt Creek Elementary School District 48 has put into place a series of new strategies and initiatives to help students achieve better results, and those new techniques will be explained to parents in a special meeting this week.
Although district students do well compared with other school districts throughout the state on the IGAP tests, district officials say reading proficiency has declined not only in the Salt Creek schools but throughout the nation.
The new steps being taken by the district are intended to address the decline. The district operates three schools: Salt Creek in Elmhurst, Stella May Swartz in Oakbrook Terrace and Albright Middle School in Villa Park.
