More than 40 model cities of the future designed by Chicago area 7th and 8th graders will be on display in competition Saturday at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Winning designers will compete against regional winners from 13 other cities Feb. 25 in Washington, D.C. The national championship team will win $5,000 from the National Engineers Week Committee and other sponsors. The Chicago competition is sponsored by Chicago engineering societies.

Judging begins at 9 a.m. and the models will be on display until 3 p.m. Engineer judges will consider creativity, layout, attractiveness and energy cost efficiency.

The event is open to the public and admission is free.
