The Palatine Village Council by a vote of 5-0 Monday night approved creating a special-service area in the Peppertree Farms subdivision to pay for repairs to the shorelines of Peppertree Lake and Peppertree Creek.
The ordinance authorizes issuing $205,000 in bonds, to be repaid solely through taxes paid by property owners in the subdivision. The project is expected to solve the flooding of recent years.
The special-service area has more than 200 homes, bounded by Dundee Road and Cunninghan Drive on the north and south and running west of Oak Street.
Peppertree farms residents approached the village seeking help paying for the repairs.
Village Manager Michael Kadlecik said Peppertree residents went through “an elaborate process,” including petitioning the entire subdivision, about setting up the special-service area.
After a public hearing was held in November, residents had 60 days to file a protest against the tax.
