I have read again about the continuing bloodshed in Algeria. It is all too apparent that the Algerian government is not capable of solving this tragedy, which consists of the Armed Islamic Group going around the countryside and killing civilians (mostly women and children), typically by cutting their throats. Can you imagine this being done without any attempt by the UN to offer assistance?
What is it about Algeria that causes so much indifference among the Western European nations and the U.S.? Has anyone forgotten what the cost of apathy was while the Bosnia civil war dragged on for more than four years? The similarities should get our attention!
