A Cook County judge delayed a ruling Tuesday on a proposed settlement between Amoco Oil Co. and the Illinois attorney general’s office over the cleanup of nearly 400 leaking underground storage tanks statewide.

Circuit Judge Michael B. Getty asked for more information about the proposed cleanup, including details on the process, an analysis of risks involved, a timetable and a priority list, said Charles Jolie, a spokesman for Atty. Gen. Jim Ryan.

The proposed settlement was reached after Ryan’s office sued Amoco, alleging that 394 gas storage tanks owned by the company across Illinois had leaked and had contaminated soil and water from July 1987 to September 1993.

Another hearing has been scheduled for February.
