The Clintons’ new plan for increased subsidies for day care is a slap in the face to families who sacrifice the most.
Single-income families sacrifice a higher standard of living for the opportunity to have one parent raise their own children, yet the Clinton plan would have these families subsidize those who choose a higher standard of living with both parents working.
The decision to have both parents working or to have one stay home is a difficult decision for most families. The government has no business using the tax code to reward or discriminate against families based on these decisions.
If the Clintons truly want to help working families, they will reduce taxes across the board or provide larger deductions for dependents. Instead, they prefer using the tax code for experiments in social engineering. Social engineering only benefits one group at the expense of another.
Republicans will be called chauvinists and anti-children by the Washington spin doctors for opposing this plan. They should take this opportunity to propose a plan that would help all working families to counter the social engineering preferred by the Left.
